At first glance, this claim might seem mind boggling: How could LittleBigPlanet, Game Revolution’s 2009 Game of the Year and winner of 4 awards at the Games Developers Choice Awards (though it did not win for Game of the Year there), a title that has swept the gaming world with its playful appeal for imagination, not inspire a long host of developers to follow in the footsteps of their success? The Nintendo DSi will finally hit American soil. Japanese gamers got to play with the DSi last November, and they've been gobbling it up since. Nintendo's upcoming handheld system includes new hardware functionality, new software, and an updated menu system, in addition to several physical design changes. The Nintendo DSi will arrive in black and blue flavors on April 5 with an MSRP of $169.99. |

What is video game addiction? What are its boundaries, its symptoms, its treatments? How wide is its scope? And is it even a medically recognised condition in the first place? In Part One of this GameSpot AU feature we speak to researchers, psychologists, medical bodies and gamers to gauge their thoughts on the cause and effects of video game addiction, the significance of it being recognised as such, and the potential for future research. In Part Two--which will launch next week--we'll look at this issue from the game makers' side, as well as explore some real-life cases of addiction. |
